Anunciation Poem by Patrick Fealy

Anunciation

) The Annunciation
God of heaven born to earth
from dust that won't decay
Immaculate Conception
Kecharitomene
Was she seated when he stooped
Do angels condescend
to catch a glimpse of Mary
most men can't comprehend
Did she take his breath away
heaven's face enthrall
Was Gabriel disquieted
when he came to call
Humbled was the messenger
waiting for her deign
Hail most holy Virgin
most highly favored dame
Swift as lightning her accord
this woman born for love
The mother of the infant god
high heaven's turtle dove
A queen of peace would vanquish
by littleness deploy
the opinions of the powerful
By gentleness destroy
Melting all the hearts of stone
one solitary maid
All Nations call her blessed now
Her glories never fade
In her sweet perfection
Mary heard the prayer
Gabriel had brought to earth
to the fairest of the fair
