Annual Prayer To The Raintree Poem by Barry Middleton

Annual Prayer To The Raintree

just before spring I gain the confidence
with just a little luck
I will see the azalea boom again
I will hear the rush of a warmer breeze
and taste the scent of the jasmine
and touch the sun bleached gulf waters

so it is time once more
my annual prayer to the raintree
you see it blooms in fall
to tell me I have marked another year
golden bloom rains down on earth
to set the seed for seasons and rebirth
