An Impoverished Child's Dream Poem by Lubinda Lubinda

An Impoverished Child's Dream

You may have seen me
writing broken letters
in the sand and thought,
I was wasting time
because I had nothing
better to do
but, I too have a dream
that one day
I could go to school
like rich kids do!

Yes, I too have a dream
that one day,
the tables would be turned
and I wouldn't
have to beg for food
all day long!
and that one day
lady luck would favour me
and i wouldn't have to spend
sleepless nights
because of hunger

I too have a dream
that one day
I would become somebody
and make opinions
that matter
instead of people
writing me off
dismissing me as useless
and good-for-nothing!
