Am Still Running Poem by Obed Akuma

Am Still Running

Am still running
Panting, running
In the rain sweating
In the rain with a hot feeling
Feeling like bursting
Exhausted, helpless, wailing
Wondering when I will cease running
Running from poverty yet it's raining
Around me filth is raining
Around me theft is raining
Around me corruption is raining

I want to run, run away from this raining
But the more I run the more its pounding
on me
on the animals
on the plants
on the Earth
on everyone, on everything
Except of course them that course the raining
The hailstones of corruption
The hailstones of poverty
of stealing
of poor leadership
of empty promises

But I can see a streak of light ahead
The sun is about to arise
The sun of right living
of right leadership
of wealth
of plenty
of harmony
of respect
Am almost there
But till then running I must
Till then endure I must
Till then sweating in the rain I must
Running, panting
Am still running
