Agony Of Waiting - Take A Ticket Poem by Joshua C. Whiting

Agony Of Waiting - Take A Ticket

At the dentist impatiently waiting
Inspired to write, a poem in the making
Waiting lines, more lines forever taking
So long and no escaping

Promised myself leaving the army
No more waiting, sunny or stormy
Lines to eat, getting paid, going on pass
Never ending daily harass

Wrong was I thinking this would be true
Inevitable lines are many, some are few
Lines here, there, everywhere
People just talk, gape and stare

Are lines a sign of inescapability
Making life a waiting futility
Could it be a human curse
Always scrambling to be the first

Witness in stores post-holiday sales rush
Stampeding, stumbling, some getting crushed
Behavior of madness galore
Urgent need for sanity to restore

Into poetry I have taken flight
Avoiding stress of being uptight
Face it people, this is our fate
Waiting in lines trying to relate

Are you waiting for Godot
Will you really ever know
Is there a wait to enter the sacred gate
Or walk straight onto this celestial estate

About that mystical territory
Is there a line in purgatory
What of Satan’s fiery domain
Are there waiting lines to contain

Must adapt to the real reality
Perceive waiting a mere formality
Sitting, standing, contemplating
Accepting agony of simply waiting
