Agony Of My Liberty Poem by Ivan Chizurum Ezeigbo

Agony Of My Liberty

Rating: 5.0

My party has risen wild
And God can now laugh with me
Like freedom on the blankets of the wind
My spirit as air from my nostrils
Float, an Aladdin, on iridescent power

Petals of roses are spread me around
By angels that love to sit and dine on blue water surfaces
They drop from the sky every red petal and illumination
Of she whom is engraved in the solemn, lonely, happy corner of my heart

I've fought, I've shattered
God has been my pillar, my staff
I've fallen, I've spread
Like lilies around a mangrove tree
I've woken up once or twice, I tell you
To see on my left side huge wings, bright and clear
I've let tears roll down my eyes, I tell you
When her finger slid through the crevices of my chest

I've let go – free!
I've jumped out the window unto the empty streets
I've floated on the sky like a blue ribbon, not a kite
A colourful, free, weightless ribbon
I've held on to invisible ropes; I've clung still
I've been put down like from a parachute I did not care to see
One I couldn't see in those blinding clouds
I've smiled; I've walked
I've felt my legs numb
Swollen, I had to stoop next to the lad sitting at a corner down ‘Soul Street’
A street without a name, without an identity
A nightmare…
And for them, sweetness, people like us
Stoop still close to me; closer and closer
Cuddling sweats and frowns
Let me free – let me try – let me cry
And let the breeze wipe those tears
