Agony Of An Independent Nation Poem by Marvis Ayebor

Agony Of An Independent Nation

Rating: 5.0

Dear old mother is 60 today and should have grandkids
Yet act like in her 20's
She who's supposed to be our doctor can't even get a cure for her disease
How do we go home for holiday when she's not a blessing

Now we all suffer for her loss
While dad is busy eating all day long
Getting fat and can't even assist mum in doing the domestic job

Yet call us lazy
Made us pay for the dept we are not owing
Take our pride without giving us credit
We're sick he's telling us to go to mum
When there's no medicine and she's not even a good doctor
Now dad is sick and has flew to London
But what happened to the money we contributed for renovation

Oh, I'm ashamed of my currency, naira
But what happened to poor uncle that didn't even get a proper funeral
Yet fought for the distribution of black gold, live stock and minerals

Tell dad to help mum and do the right thing
And don't tell me to celebrate mum's 60th birthday because I'm not happy
