Adult Poem by James Daniel Brough

Adult

Older Colder Stronger
Emotionally Shorted

Like Robocop frying his own circuits

Feelings circumcised and desensitised
Thick skinned
Immovable

Like a frozen Han Solo waving his princess goodbye

Youth's heart is quite supple and soft
The adult's is a pulled muscle
A victim of malpractice
An unhelpful appendage
It won't risk surgery

It'll see anyone
It's open to anyone
but
Only like a sign outside a school sweet-shop
Only like Hugh Grant as the bad guy
Only like a children’s book you know better than to take seriously

Increasingly black and white, until tone is colour

Happy with Facts

Unhappy in fact
