Addiction Poem by Chloe Lubinska

Addiction

A friend of function
To stop the fall
Is a friend indeed
Until not at all
The friend is foreign
Not of human kind
The friend keeps scrawling
Line to line
Letters of love
To your lonely mind
Fooled by their swoon
Taken aside
Steals your sight
Makes you blind
Shifts the borders
Of night and day
Morphs your values
Throws fellows away
Wants to co-exist
As to be something
An unfortunate gift
That's as ready to nurture
And just as ready to sting
