Add To My Joy! Poem by Ayokunle Adeleye

Add To My Joy!

'Add to my joy, '
So the name goes
Make me a buoy
So I don't sink with woes

For when by me one was dumped
Because love from her was lumped
Into you I bumped
The one for whom my heart jumped

But I've learnt not to be too expectant-
In this situation there is no disinfectant-
Hence I can only wait to see if this works out-
And without a single bout

Know that I ain't doing this to compensate
We just may be commensurate
Of course, there has been no reason to consummate
So no one need commiserate

I'm also not eager to replace
Even though my love I did misplace
So you needn't struggle to displace;
This may very well be your place

But I hope it doesn't take long
Before I can see if anything'll ever go wrong.
This better not be a game of ping-pong:
We better be as inseparable as the invincible tong

So I've made up my mind:
This time I loathe another ride-
So long it's on a hind.
Hence I need prudence on my side

Now one says, 'You need not be older.'
Another: 'You must not be the colder.'
Yet another: 'As long as you are the bolder.'
But I say: 'Beauty is in my eyes-the Beholder.'!
