Actually, I Have A Daughter About Your Age Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Actually, I Have A Daughter About Your Age

Rating: 3.5

I'm not going to try to rhyme this one
Just distracted suddenly with affection
from some unexpected direction
I could be having an (no...don't go there!)

A young woman far away
Just touched my heart
In such an unexpected way
For a while I've been feeling so down
Past two days wearing a frown
But inside I was hurting
Though others were around
My heart was dragging on the ground
And then a woman
With a heart to run away from her home
Her words made me feel less alone
And drew me in
And I felt a pull inside
A certain spark of attraction
That of late I've felt hardly a fraction
How can you feel someone through words in a poem?
That make you feel less alone?
I wonder this moment without a reason
Wishing I was younger, closer to her season
But in the heart of me
I wonder if two souls could be so free
to see past age and separation
to dare to see
if love was possible between someoen like her and me
I guess it's knowing that life is so short
and how empty it can be
that's creeping up on me
But to that young girl with a heart searching and distraught
thanks for touching me and making me feel
even if all is bound for naught
sometimes everything can be won and lost in a thought
but to fall in love, I wish if I do
It will be to be in the heart
of someone like you
because life is so short
and all we have in the end
is
Love
and I dream of one
Everlasting
