A World Of Silence Poem by Tony Adah

A World Of Silence

We prayed in silence
Ate in quietude
If available food was
We moved without the sound
Of our footsteps
We cried silently.

We regretted our dumbness
All these after the election
Has been won
And the only gift democracy gave
Was a barless prison
Where we were locked with padlocks
On our lips.

We move but with shackles
Everything we attempted saying
Counted seriously against us
Just that we were a minority.
