A Work In Progress Poem by keith brown

Good day how ya going,ya all good.
I've got a tale to tell you so please listen if you would

The wife says I'm a slow learner,
and I guess that maybe true, Cause
I've Been in sales now forty years
And there's still silly things that I still do

I've been through all the training, sales courses, communication, empathy.
Maybe it was experience that was, missing most in me
When I walked into my first store I had my sales plan, I was pretty certain I was a budding sales man.
I stuck out my Hand, "good day how ya going " was my opening salutation
But the bloke behind counter was more concerned with his current situation

He slowly raised his head and looked me In theeye and my confidence began to wane as I listened to his reply.

"The stores going broke " he said "I've been left by my wife
My eldest sons been retrenched and the young ones in more strife,
My daughters just got pregnant, and she's only fourteen
Other that I'm fine if you know what I mean."

Now you may think this is just a yarn but I swear to you it's true
And he ended that last sentence with the words

"How are you? "

Well my training went out the door, I wish I'd followed too
There was nothing in the sales book that told me what too do
So I gathered my wits and did the best I could
And in faltering voice I replied

"I'm good"'

Now you may wonder how this tale proves I find it hard too learn
Or maybe your confused by my apparent lack of concern
or maybe you don't understand
Why the merchants tale didn't just move me to tears

Well I stuck me hand out and said" good day how ya going " now for more than forty years

But I'm slow, I'm not stupid, give, some credit if you would
Now when I stick out me hand
I say
" goodday how ya going ya all good! "
