A Sonnet: A Year Has Past. Poem by Benjamin Hickmott

A Sonnet: A Year Has Past.

That I see you so rarely is a shame
I wish I had more time to be with you
Don‘t get me wrong, I am staking no claim
That we could seldom touch I always new
But frequently you take up all my thoughts
Then my feelings swell full of devotion
My sense of reason then simply distorts
I could drown in a wave of emotion
I have no escape valve to ease this force
Other than to wait or sit here and write
The other way to be near you of course
Is go to bed and dream of you tonight
A year has past and I have no regrets
Except that we don‘t sing enough duets
