A Rose Of Duhallow Poem by Francis Duggan

A Rose Of Duhallow

Her journey in life took her to a far shore
Far south of the roadway that leads to Rathmore
Where old Clara Mountain as ever looks down
On the green countryside west of Millstreet Town
In her early twenties in the month Of May
She boarded a plane in ShannonAirport for the U S of A
Blue eyes and brown hair she was slender and tall
In Duhallow and Sliabh Luachra of the fifties one of the fairest of all
An old memory in me today a source of joy
Going back some six decades to when I was a boy
Walking on the road that leads to Rathmore she was not seen again
And of the what used to be only memories remain
A Rose of Duhallow who went to the U S of A
She would be in her eighties if living today.
