A Prayer For My Son Poem by Whitney Nicole Albright*

A Prayer For My Son

May his eyes always open with wonder
At the start of each new day
May they always see the good in others
That you send along his way

May his feet always walk a steady gait
And follow in your direction
When he stumbles in the bracken
May he seek you for protection

May his hands know hard work
And never be ashamed to fold in prayer
May they hold a thousand blessings
And always be eager to share

May his mouth speak only words of truth
And echo your promises on his tongue
May he taste and savor the fruit of the spirit
And tell of praises unsung

May his ears ignore deceptions of the world
And only listen to your voice
I pray you hold him in your clutches
So that your love is an easy choice

May you watch him in his sleep
Shape him, help him grow
And be the one true anchor
His ship will always know

May you always direct my teaching
Please, show me the right doors
I'll love him no matter what
But I need him to be yours

May you always watch him closely
Make him a man that men behold
For my purpose as his mother
Is to make sure you keep his soul.

I know his innocence will fade
And he'll be high and low
But Lord, please hear my prayer
And never let him go

Amen
