A Poem For My Daughter Poem by Peter Swan

A Poem For My Daughter

we skimmed stones across the oceans
and I held your hand
being responsible for you
frightens me
hoping you dont feel pain
or grow too quickly
maybe resent me for being distant
But I watch you as a flower
and every week I see you grow
notice the jeans above your ankles
the short sleeves that show your wrists
when you sleep your like rice paper
too easy to break
so I whisper in your ear
'your very beautiful
and your father loves you so'
once you made a wish and
I asked you what it was, you said,
'that the whole world was chocolate'
