A Poem Before Sleep Poem by Melanie Emikohe

A Poem Before Sleep

Rating: 4.7

Hooked into this habit,
staying up late, two AM;
my lover drools on my pillow;
I watch his dreaming state.

To compensate
for these eyes' dark circles,
and ecstatic dreams lost,
I write this before I sleep.

So much contentment in this poem, really good writing. A 10.

brian was right..dark circles on your eyes are compensated with poetry... isn't we felt fulfillment after finishing one poem, though we haven't got enough sleep? ? ... appreciate a tagalog poem from you... thanks =)

YES.. Melanie, this one hit home for me. I think late night writing is a common habit in the world of poetry. inspiration seems to only find creative souls once the rest of the world is sleeping. i especially enjoyed the last stanza; sacrificing dreams and accepting that worn out look that the lack of sleep produces all for the sake of writing a good poem. a great piece- change nothing
