A New Day Poem by Austin Lockwood

A New Day

Waiting for the dawn of a new day
Sleep eludes my wakeful mind
The suns rays are traveling at the speed of light
Yet in this moment their voyage is slowed
The moment before a new days break
I think about what this new day may bring
Possibilities that will soon become history
Opportunities that will be missed
People I will see and never talk to
Roads I will not travel down
Friends I will not make today
Loved ones I may neglect to embrace
I can only follow one path today
The way I choose to live today will be set
It can not be undone
I must choose my path wisely
For I only get one chance at today
I will choose to live my life today
I will walk the path that presents itself
At the end of the day I will not be troubled
I will not regret the missed opportunities
For I know that in tomorrow lies a new day
