A Mountain Of Fear Poem by Sheena Blackhall

A Mountain Of Fear

#What does a woman fear?
Being stabbed to death
For seasoning a meal with garlic
Killed for phoning a friend
Each day, real cause for panic

What does a woman fear?
Doused in petrol, becoming a live cremation
An honour killing. A violence epidemic
Another statistic in anti-female aggression

Strangled, smothered, kicked
Stamped, bitten and beaten
Stalked, raped and trolled
Mocked and controlled
In a vile attempt to weaken

It's the tip of the iceberg
In the home, at work, at play
The mountain of fear some women
Climb each day
