A mermaid's heart is as cold as ice,
Her lullaby song for all to entice.
Softly luring a young sailor from afar,
Always at night under a twinkling star.
When hypnotised and he's half asleep,
She'll grasp him and drop to The Deep.
All innocent sailors sink like heavy stones,
I was the first and my name is Davey Jones.
Thanks Dominic and quite literally I worked backwards on this one. Just wanting Davey Jones as the final pay-off, the final revealed surprise. Thanks again and take care.
What a wonderful fairytale! Captivating and gripping. Your closure line is just brilliant. Very entertaining write with great rhyme and flow. To my Poem List.
Alas like the Lorelei or the Greek Sirens, the mermaid lures unsuspecting sailors to their doom. I'm sure many of these creatures, in their various disguises, in a modern context, frequent night clubs and pubs up and down the country. At least, lockdown has curbed their wicked ways somewhat. Anyway I digress, this is a beautifully written poem Shaun with a sumptuously flowing rhyme scheme. It's a not so innocent as one initially appears inspired ten from me!
