A Marine Was Shot Poem by norman hale

A Marine Was Shot

A marine has died
But not in a foreign land
But in a little store
Shot down by a fellow man

It was a hold-up
That turned out wrong
Now his fellow soldiers
Will march to his song

He served two duties
In those foreign lands
Thinking of his homeland
Crawling through burning sands

He had just got home
And was in his uniform so white
He walked into the store
And was shot down on sight

The shooter got away clean
But the camera cought it all
From the start of the hold-up
Until the shooter shot them all

He was a known criminal
The police knew him well
But to the public ears
They just don't want to tell

He'll now go to prison
While the others go to the grave
Including our soldier boy
Who so proudly gave

His family will cry
Long after he's in the ground
His mom will forever weep
At times even in her sleep

So honor our soldiers
For life is too short
To live with regrets
To hear of these reports
