A Little Discourse About Reunions.... Poem by RIC BASTASA

A Little Discourse About Reunions....

in the month of may
i will be attending
a high school reunion
the women want to
wear black to hide fat.
the men did not care.
some say we will not
talk about politics or
religion as it would
be divisive and may
possibly spoil the fun
of reminiscences.
some say we will have
mind games since our
old bodies cannot anymore
tackle the jumps or the
runs.
some say we will have
barbecue at the pool side.
some wants a formal dinner
with a short program,
getting to know what happened
after fifty years.
some will donate for those
who did not make it good in
life, some promised not to
mention about their successes
financially or career wise.
i just listen and scroll over
their comments in messenger
trying to figure our whether
i still belong, grappling
with the reason whether
to attend it or not at all.
i did not even have a
reunion with myself yet.
and i still wonder whether
the past was worth its hand
to shake hands with my
present or to have more
glimpse with the future's
older face, one without
the glamour and the glitter
of what i still really
wanted to be.
