A Ghost In The House Poem by Richard D Remler

A Ghost In The House

.....

Don't you dare tap on that door,
Or crick the boards that make the floor,

Or move the knocker one more knick.
Or give that clicker on more click.

Keep as quiet as can be,
Just hush! Don't even look at me,

Be quiet as a midnight dream,
If I don't get some rest I'll scream!

If a cricket starts to promptly purr,
Or you sneeze from dandelion fur,

That prickly, spiteful little pest
Will top his hat and don his vest

And sneak about with eyes of spite
To steal away our sleep tonight.

It'll flicker every light we share.
It'll skitchel every kitchen chair...

It'll move the drapes, and spook the dog.
And overturn the yule log.

It'll give the room a ghostly chill.
Oh, don't you scoff. I know it will.

It will ring the doorbell 'til it snaps,
Then turn on all the water taps.

It'll flush the loo until it gags,
And rummage through your shoulder bags,

And turn the television on
Until my sanity is gone.

And don't you say it's just a ghostly mouse
That haunts my not so peaceful house.

Don't tell me it's a friendly bloke
No different from most other folk.

Or that this snibbly little rat
That wears a snibbly little hat

Is anything but the offish beastie
That I've come to like the leastie.

I do not care for spiteful spooks.
They are not my cup of tea.

This beetle-browed and bug-eyed specter
Loves to torment me.

It haunts me in the dark of night,
And rattles everything in sight.

It shudders walls from side to side
Where spider spirits tend to hide,

And cast its echoes to the air
If it feels it's worthy a scare.

It prances gleeful when it rains,
And rattles little mousey chains,

And ever patient, ever sly,
Lets out such a mournful cry,

Then giggles wickedly, you see,
When it knows it's frazzled me.

I do not care for spiteful spooks,
They're ever so not right.

I do not care for poltergeists,
Or things that go bump in my night.

I dread those moments in between
When phantom shadows can be seen,

But what I really, truly hate the mosty
Is being haunted by a mousey ghosty.
