A Few Faceless Names Poem by Sumanta Dhar

A Few Faceless Names

A few nameless faces
A few faceless names
Walk through lane after lane
They vanish at one turn of the street
And again get disgorged into another
They shout in rhythm
They talk on freedom
Humming noise of engines
Emancipates from the halted cars
In the prosaic traffic signal
Gets mingled with the chorus
Tired dejected faces hang on
The windows of cars and buses
The passer by doesn't pay any heed
If any, not more than a scornful glance
They keep on shouting
They protest for progress
Amidst lot many deaf years
Their act resembles
A silent era movie
The cavalcade moves on
Piercing through lane to lane
They seek progress
They talk freedom
Quite oblivious, somewhere
Somewhere in the time warp,
Progress has also progressed,
A myriad light years,
Much ahead of them
And they can never progress
Except from lane to lane.
Though, they keep walking
They keep shouting
A too many faceless names,
A too many nameless faces.
