A Bug's Story Poem by Vonnie Postit

A Bug's Story

(buzz buzz)
boy
why do you try and hit me
(buzz buzz)
toy
i'm hungry that's all
what is this smell, smelling strong
YES…garbage (like gold) .
what do they see in these buildings?
why do they flock together?
open mouth, selfish
why are there so many, how did they
grow so big?
did my mama not love me?
flying, avoid swat; what is that?
what did i ever do to you?
is my life such a horror i cannot exist?
this morning you killed my home.
just yesterday this spot, here,
was a branch that i would
circle, circle, circle, circle
land
.
.
.
circle back; TODAY
i come back to my spot to find it''s been
repurposed into a paper making
factory.
there are some places i am
more welcome than others. like when
i find something that smells like
home, i'll follow it like
a sinner when he finds
jesus.
i came upon a building.
i'd never been in one; my brothers told
me to stay far away.
(buzz buzz)
those who go in rarely come out;
especially the shiny ones, i have been
told it is not The Great White Light like
it seems to be.
circle, land
.
.
.
well, i went in anyways in a daze of rebellion
hypnotized by the idea of
garbage (like gold)and followed jesus.
the building was boring as can be.
no trees.
no bushes.
just garbage (like disposable) —
circle, circle, land
.
.
.
i by accidently get into a Taxi,
circle, try to land on what i thought
was a branch but it violently moved
avoid swat, circle back,
try to
find Big Open Blue
find the Great White Light
i run into an invisible blockade
and lose hope for myself all at once.
i was just searching for god
like the rest of you.
why are all of you giants so unhappy?
circle,
is it difficult to fly with a head so large?
circle, circle,
have you lost the Great White Light?
are you just stuck inside with the window closed, too?
(buzz buzz)
circle, circle
land
.
.
(buzz buzz)
(splat)
