.4. The Quake Poem by David Threadgold

.4. The Quake

Ear splitting explosion
That rocks all the walls
A noise on the roof
When the chimney stack falls

Folk running for cover
Are knocked off their feet
When a fifty foot crack
Runs the length of the street

It swallowed up cars
Traffic lights and a train
A rumbling began
Followed swiftly by rain

Many souls lost
Buried under the rubble
Who didn’t deserve
To receive so much trouble
