Have you ever felt so lonely as you fought to fight back the tears
When you thought of friends and family members that you had not seen for years
Some of them with life's departed and in the flesh never more to see
Often times our fondest memories can feel sad as sad can be

Nostalgia at his heart pricks like a thorn
His thoughts are of the Land where he was born
And a beautiful woman he once loved there
Miliza with the curly ginger coloured hair.

He stood there by a lonely hill
Listening to the song birds trill,
The tears were streaming down the face
Of this man they nicknamed 'Lonely Case'.

In lonely saltbush country where so much saltbush grow
The only bird one hear and see is the dark pale eyed crow
Cawing mournfully on a dead gum tree beside the quiet roadway
His voice echoing in the silence of the dawning cool and gray.

To some people life can seem very unfair
For years he has battled his black moods of despair
In and out of mental institutions his moods often on the darker side
By illness of the mind his life has been destroyed
...

No I don't sing the anthem of Cork City
The green green banks of my own lovely Lee
I'd much prefer to sing of distant mountains
Or places like the woods of Reanaree
...

Just a lonely old lady the years have made her gray
Her husband died of a heart attack five years ago last May
All of her true and dearest friends to the grim reaper have gone
And still the Seasons come and go and she keeps living on.
