The Colour of Saying - Dylan Thomas Creative Writing Competition
Closing date: 27th April 2014
For ages 10 to adult. Responses invited to the poem 'The Hunchback in the Park'. They can be in poetry, prose-poems, prose, diary form, and letter form. The best of the submissions will be judged by international writers/translators and published in an anthology which will appear on the 27th October 2014, the centenary of Dylan Thomas's birth. The remainder of the submissions will appear in phases on website. Part of the remit of the competition is to encourage trauma or war victims, prisoners, abused wives or husbands, immigrants or refugees to a new country who do not speak the country's language and so entries are welcome in the writer's mother tongue (whatever the language is) or in the writer's dialect, together with (if possible) an English translation. Submissions are limited to one page each for the original and translation. Please see website for full details.

Lichfield Poetry Competition –2014
Poems, of a maximum length of 30 lines, on any topic, and in any style are invited, with a first prize of £100, a second prize of £50 and a third prize of £25.

Mesa County Libraries
April is National Poetry Month, and to celebrate, we’re doing another Poetry Contest! We encourage those 18+ to submit an original poem by April 19th,2014. The top three poems will be awarded prizes and will be featured on our website during the month of May.
Poems can only be submitted online using the form below. No poems will be accepted in person, in any format, at any library branch.
Poems must be the original, previously unpublished work of the submitter.
Length of poems cannot exceed 40 lines.
Poems must be suitable for a general audience, e.g. no profanity, vulgarity, etc.
There is a limit of 2 poems per entrant, up to 40 lines each. Please use a separate form for each entry.
Contest is open to Mesa County Libraries cardholders 18+.
Deadline for entries is Saturday, April 19th at 6pm.
By submitting a poem, you agree to let Mesa County Libraries use your poem on our website. The copyright is retained by the author.
Poems will be judged on originality, creativity, grammar, artistic quality and adherence to the length limit of 40 lines. The decision of the judge is final.
Names will be taken off each submission when judging to ensure impartiality.
Staff of Mesa County Libraries are not eligible for entry.
Prizes: the top three poets will receive a $10, $15 or $20 gift card to Downtown Grand Junction.
The contest will be judged by Dr. Randy Phillis, professor of English at CMU, and author of the poetry collections: A Man Explains His Posture and Kismet, Colorado.

Nimrod Literary Awards
Contest Begins: January 1,2014
Postmark Deadline: April 30,2014
Poetry: 3-10 pages of poetry (one long poem or several short poems) .
Fiction: 7,500 words maximum (one short story or a self-contained excerpt from a novel)
No previously published works or works accepted for publication elsewhere. Author's name must not appear on the manuscript. Include a cover sheet containing major title and subtitles, author's name, full address, phone & email. Manuscripts should be stapled, if possible; if not, please bind with a heavy clip. “Contest Entry" should be clearly indicated on both the outer envelope and the cover sheet.
Include SASE for results only. If no SASE is sent, no contest results will be sent; however, the results will be posted on Nimrod’s website. Manuscripts will not be returned.
Submitters must be living in the US by October of 2014 to enter the contest.
Winners will also be brought to Tulsa for the Awards Ceremony in October. All finalists will be considered for publication.
Entry/Subscription Fee: Each entry must each be accompanied by a $20 fee. Make checks payable to Nimrod. $20 includes both entry fee & a one-year subscription (two issues) .

The Brownsville Herald Poetry Contest
The Brownsville Herald is celebrating National Poetry Month* with a poetry contest. Anyone 18 or older who lives in The Herald circulation area may enter.
• Each individual may submit one original poem (English or Spanish) that has not been previously published or has not previously won an award or prize. Poems can be
illustrated, but that is not required.
• Poets may write on any topic that is suitable for a general audience. Poems must be no more than 30 lines and can be in any style. Poems mailed or dropped off at The Herald office must be typed in plain typeface.
• Poems will be judged on creativity, artistic quality, and previously-stated guidelines. Any poem that does not follow the guidelines will be disqualified.
• Poems will not be returned. Please keep a copy for yourself.
The deadline for entries is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16th and winning poems will be announced with publication on Sunday, April 27th. There will be first, second, and third prizes awarded.

The First New York State Poetry Unites Contest
Contest is open to all New York State residents.
Write an essay no longer than 600 words in addition to the text of the poem. Attach the text of the poem with the title and the name of the poet. The poem must be written by a poet other than the author of the essay.
Include a mailing address or an e-mail address as well as your name in the essay.
Send essays to email@example.com, before or on April 15th 2014.
Four winners will be selected by The Jury, headed by Marie Howe.
Results will be announced in the beginning of May 2014.
Films will be produced between May 15th and September 15th,2014.
The closing event of the contest, with the screening of the films about the winners, will take place in October 2014 in New York City during Poets Forum organized by the Academy of American Poets. All winners will be invited to the event.
By entering, participants agree to be featured in a film profile produced by Ewa Zadrzynska
