    Diana Brebner Prize

    The Diana Breb­ner Prize is awarded yearly for the best poem writ­ten by a National Cap­i­tal Region poet, who has not yet been pub­lished in book form. The prize hon­ours the late Diana Breb­ner, an award-winning Ottawa-based poet who was devoted to fos­ter­ing lit­er­ary tal­ent among new, local writers.

    The Robert Spiess Memorial
    2014 Haiku Awards

    As a memorial to Editor Bob Spiess, who died on March 13,2002, Modern Haiku is pleased to announce the Robert Spiess Memorial Haiku Award Competition for 2013. The purpose of this competition is to honor the life and work of Bob Spiess, editor of Modern Haiku from 1978 to his death on March 13,2002.

    Theme: Haiku are to be written in the spirit of the following Speculation (Robert Spiess, A Year’s Speculations on Haiku, Modern Haiku Press,1995) :

    After the awareness of a haiku moment, the poet must select and arrange the words of the haiku in such a manner that when the haiku is read or heard, the words arouse or evoke in the reader/ hearer those immediate feelings that the poet had. The art of haiku is that of the haiku poet’s feel for words, the selection of the absolutely appropriate words and the exact positioning of them.

    Deadline: In hand no later than March 13,2014.

    Wenlock Poetry Festival Poetry Competition 2014

    Southeast Review Gearhart Poetry Contest

    Deadline: 15 March 2014
    Prize: $500 and publication
    Fee: $16 to The Southeast Review

    Submit up to three poems, no more than 10 pages total with a $15 reading fee ($16 online) . Include no more than one poem per page. Include your name and contact information on a very brief cover letter. Your name should also appear on the first page of each poem submitted. One winner will be chosen and awarded $500. The winner and nine finalists will be published. Label envelope: SER Poetry Contest. It is not necessary to send an SASE. Winners will be announced on the website in late spring. Please note the importance of including your contact information in a brief cover letter; all contestants will receive the issue in which the winning submissions appear.

    Campbell Corner Poetry Prize

    Deadline: 15 March 2014
    Prizes: $3,000, reading, and publication
    Fee: $25 to Sarah Lawrence College

    Poems: Entries that treat larger themes with lyric intensity are especially welcomed. Winners are invited to give a public reading at the college. The poems will be published in the Poetry Contest Section of the Sarah Lawrence Language Exchange. Omit author's name on manuscript and include a cover sheet with name, address, phone, and e-mail. Maximum length for submissions is 20 pages. Entrants must submit their poems in three printed copies. The entry fee is $25; checks should be made payable to Sarah Lawrence College. Previously published work is accepted, but when and where published should be noted on the cover sheet.
