    Sentinel Literary Quarterly Poetry Competition 2014

    Details:
    Closing Date: 31st August 2014
    For original, previously unpublished poems in English Language, on any subject, in any style up to 50 lines long. Judge: Will Daunt. Prizes: £200 (First) , £75 (Second) , £50 (Third) , £20 x 3 (High Commendation) . The winners and commended poems will receive first publication in Sentinel Literary Quarterly magazine.

    The Portico Brotherton Poetry Prize 2014

    Prizes offered in two categories for a poem on 'Conflict and Community'. Entries may want to focus on particular conflicts and their effect on a community or write from the perspective of an individual experiencing conflict. OPEN CATEGORY (Over 16s) .     International Children's Stories Competition 2014

    Details:
    Closing Date: 31st August 2014
    Prizes: The two winning stories in the 1-3 years and 4-6 years category will be published as illustrated children's books by Clavis publishing inc. The theme of this year's competition is 'Grandpa, grandma and I living in our multicultural society'. You can participate in the 1-3 years category (600 words maximum) and the 4-6 years category (900 words maximum) . Rhyming stories welcome.

    The Manchester Poetry Prize 2014

    First Prize: £10,000 'It's a delight to give money to poets! ' National Poet for Wales Gillian Clarke, Judge 2008 'Asking for a batch of poems rather than a single entry allows judges to look beyond competency and control in writing and to reward other virtues, such as risk-taking, inventiveness and sustained achievement.' Simon Armitage, Chair of Judges 2010 Under the direction of Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, the Manchester Writing School at Manchester Metropolitan University runs the annual Manchester Poetry Prize - a major international literary competition, celebrating excellence in creative writing.

    The 2014 Manchester Poetry Prize will award a cash prize of £10,000 to the writer of the poems submitted. All entrants are asked to submit a portfolio of three to five poems (total maximum line length: 120) .     Saveas Writers' International Writing Competition 2014 - Reflections on the Great War

    Closing Date: 23rd August 2014
    This year marks the centenary of the outset of the Great War and entries are invited of short works of poetry or prose written in response to any work of art associated with World War One. 'Work of art' in this context can be a painting, a song, a poem, even a film or a soundtrack to a film. The interpretation of the term is entirely up to the entrant. Poetry judge: Marilyn Donovan. First Prize £50, Second Prize £30, Third Prize £20. Poems: maximum length 50 lines. Your name must not appear on your hard copies but please include a covering letter with your name, contact details, and titles of the entries.
    Entry Fee: £2 per poem

    Torbay Open Poetry Competition 2014

    Details:
    Closing Date: 15th August 2014
    Judge: R. V. Bailey. First prize: £700, plus free weekend at the Poetry Festival, including accommodation and Festival Pass. Second prize: £400, plus a free Festival Pass.
