    A prize of $1,000 and publication in Dogwood is given annually for a poem, a short story, or an essay. Submit up to three poems totaling no more than 10 pages or up to 22 pages of prose with a $10 entry fee by September 5. Visit the website for complete guidelines.

    Poetry Rivals National Poetry Competition

    Closing date: 17th September 2014.
    Prizes: The top 100 poets who will then receive five free copies of the finalist anthology and be invited to attend the Poetry Rivals Slam Final held in 2015. At the slam our judges will select the overall winner and crown them Poetry Rivals Slam Champion 2014 and win a book publishing contract!
    Entry fee: £10 entry fee (one poem per person)

    Ealing Autumn Festival Poetry Competition 2014

    Closing date: 8th September 2014.
    Prizes: Category 1: adults (19 years and over) : 1st prize £200,2nd prize £100,3rd prize £50. Category 2: 18 years & under: 1st prize £85,2nd prize £45,3rd prize £20.
    Theme for both categories: Constellations.
    The competition will be judged by George Szirtes.
    Winning poems will be published on the Festival website and winners will be announced and prizes presented at the Festival event on October 21st 7.30pm at Drayton Court Hotel,2 The Avenue, Ealing, London W13 8PH. Winners will be invited to read their poems.

    The High Sheriff's Cheshire Prize for Literature

    Closing date is 1st September,2014
    1st prize is £2000
    Entry is free
    1500 words for a short story or 100 lines for a poem.
    Theme is children's literature aimed at seven to 14-year old children
    You must be over 18 to enter and live or have lived, work or have worked, study or have studied in Cheshire (to include Wirral, Warrington and Halton) .

    The Flambard Poetry Prize 2014


    Closing Date: 01-Sep-14
    Prizes: First prize: £1000, Second prize: £250.
    Judges: Peter Bennet and Gladys Mary Coles.
    The Flambard Prize will be awarded annually to the best group of five poems submitted by a poet who has not yet published a single-authored pamphlet or collection. Each poem should be no longer than 40 lines.

    Westhope College Open Poetry Competition 2014
