This poem I'm looking for is about death, and the final lines are something very roughly along the lines of " you've gone to bed, I'll stay a little while longer to tend the embers of the fire that still burn" .
Any ideas gratefully received!

    That sounds like the memorial poem " Three Friends of Mine" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
