we who walk
with the stink
of humanity...

the soft touch
of your hands
brushing mine...

whether it be
old and young
white and black
Asian and Hispanic

just a broken down car,
had to push it out of the road....
put my last ten dollars in gas....

i was thinking about
Martin Luther King...
and the tobacco road south...

the sheriff's department finally
raided that old run down church
you know, the one over on
the bad end of town

a young boy praying
after his father and mother
