Yama Dwitiya, Bhai Dooj

Yama Dwitiya

Yama, the God of Death
Visiting the house ofhis sister Yami
And she welcoming him with aarti, garland
Andgood dishes
And a tilak on the forehead
For the bestowing upon of
Good fortune and long life
Cutting across the evils.

Let there be happiness
In the life of the sister,
Let the brother live a long life,
Let the bonding and sympathy
Continue to drive the misfortunes away!

Bhai Dooj

The sister giving a phonta,
A tikka
On the forehead
Of the brother,
Showing the aarti,
Giving sweets to,
Oh, the joys of a little sister!
