Words Can Wound Poem by Skylark Woodrow

Words Can Wound

It's all in your head,
No one can see it.
Your bleeding out,
And they say they didn't mean it.

Words can wound,
Words can scar;
And it's a lot harder to heal a broken heart.

Gotta scratch?
Have a band-aid.
Broke your arm?
We have casts for that.
Need stitches?
Can do.
Don't worry,
We can fix you.

Someone hurt your feelings?
Don't be a wuss.
You're being bullied?
Suck it up.
You're feeling depressed?
Snap out of it.
You're suicidal?
No, no, no, there is medication for that,
It should be able to repress "those kinds of feelings".
But what about healing?
Why didn't we try to fix this in the beginning?

There are no band-aids,
There are no casts,
What kind of stitches do you have for that?

Your chances are over,
The damage done.
I guess you can say society won.

So watch your mouth,
Hold your tongue,
Think before the damage is done.
Your words can wound,
And. Those. Wounds. May. Never. Heal.
