What Do You Think? Poem by James Grengs

What Do You Think?

Rating: 5.0

Do you think I wanted to love you?
Did I ever ask for your heart?
No, I never did,
And I never will.
Did I ever ask to fall in love with you?
No, and now that I have,
And been burned,
-Not the first time, for me:
Why should you be any different? -
Now that I have fallen in love with you,
I will not do it again.
(For that to happen would take a miracle.)
I never wanted to even know you,
So what do you think?
Do you think I hurt now because my choice was bad?
Think again.
I hurt now because whatever happened to me,
Whoever’s fault it was,
I hurt against my will,
Just as I fell for you against my will.
I thought, maybe, that because I fell for you against my will,
It would happen the same way to you.
What do you think? Was I a fool? Am I?
I never wanted to be, that I promise you.
But now, I think I may be a fool,
For falling for someone I would never have.
I am sorry, that I ever thought of you that way.

What do you think?
Why did I fall for you, if there was no reason for it?
Could there have been a reason that you complete me so well?
What do you think?
