W. H. Auden: "Funeral Blues" In Hindi/Urdu Translation

sub ghaDioN ko thaam do, telephone lienaiN kaat do,
kuttay ka bhonkna bund karo, koi juicy haddi isay do
piano bajaana bund karo, halki halki dholki bajaaoo
vilaapioN ko aanay do, coffin ko bahar laao

hawaaee jahaazon ko chakkar oopar maarnay do
taa k akaash main vo likh sakaiN 'vo mar gaya hai'
kabootroN k safed galoN main kaalay ribbon lagaao
police ko pehn-nay k liyay kaaly daastaanay do

vo mera uttar tha, dakshan tha, poorav tha, pascham tha
hafta bhar mare liyay kaam karta tha, aitwaar ko mere saath araam karta tha
meri do-pehar tha, aadi raat tha, baat-cheet ka saathi tha, mera sangeet tha
mohabbat rahay gi hamesha k liyay, ye vichaar mera galt tha

taaron ki ab kya zaroorat hai, bujha do har ek ko
rukh do kahin utha kar chaand ko, toD maaro soorya ko
khaali kar do samundar ko, saaf kar do jungloN ko
koi bhi cheez ab kisi kaam ki nahin hai.

W. H. Auden: "Funeral Blues"

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message ‘He is Dead'.
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now; put out every one,
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun,
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.a
