The Sheer Brilliance Of Banksy Poem by Shaun Cronick

The Sheer Brilliance Of Banksy

The elusive artist Banksy,
Has given one of his paintings,
To Southampton General Hospital.
Where it will hang in a foyer,
Near the Emergency Department.
Till autumn and then be auctioned off,
To raise money for the NHS.
Mostly a monochrome painting depicting,
A young boy dressed in dungarees and a T-shirt,
Kneeling by a wastepaper basket.
In the wastepaper basket are his discarded,
Batman and Spiderman model figures.
In favour of a new action model figure...
An NHS nurse.
The boy is holding this figure,
The nurse's arm is outstretched and pointing forward,
In the fashion of Superman on a mission.
She is wearing a facemask,
A nurse's cape,
And an apron with the Red Cross emblem.
The only touch of colour in the painting.

Banksy also left a note for all the hospital workers,
Which read: -
'Thanks for all you're doing.
I hope this brightens the place up a bit,
Even if its only black and white.'

Banksy's painting is brilliant.
And that man has a heart of gold.
