The Nightingale

Rating: 5.0

The Nightingale, he stilled his song today -
So sadly he has meekly flown away.
He lost his soul, subdued his beating heart,
And hence this little bird chose to depart.

He could not bear to see the world so torn,
With endless grief and endless sorrow borne -
Recalling when all things were sweet and true,
With little here to trouble me and you.

Oh Nightingale I long to hear you sing
And see you fly once more on flutt'ring wing.
I beg you please return to light our days,
To hear your song through all the misty haze.

The world will never be the same again
Without the solace of your sweet refrain.
The days are darker now that you are gone -
The sun has closed his eyes on everyone.

The beauty of your song brings such delight,
And then to watch you soar on wing'ed flight.
Sweet bird I pray your melody will be
Heard by the world through all eternity.
