The Face Of The Devil

Rating: 5.0

I seek no love, I seek no light
I seek no wealth, no courage of might
I seek no life, I seek no death
I seek no meadow, no hide in shadow
All I seek is an answer from the wise

I saw a dream, I saw a dream
I didn't but my conviction did scream
In my dream I saw a bird
Whose beauty no poet can describe in word
She was white as fairy
She sang O' Mary
Such grace was in her
My eyes wondered 'Was it Earth? '

Hop. Hop. Hop. She does.
Her heart is in air
But the earth keeps pulling her
I want to help, at least give a try
To heal her wings and make her fly
But near I go, she leaps ahead
It would not be easy said my head
'Forget her and leave her in dread
Because late you get, you lose the bread'

I turn to the left, I turn to the right
I see a squirrel and a dog in plight
My heart starts to bleed
And begs to heed
'Is it the wish of thee,
You close your eyes while the evil struck these three'

From far I see the demon come
In the skin of man and blood of scum
He thanks the lord for the day's victory
'The flesh of the three will relieve my misery'

I see the light from the blade of his knife
A man takes life to make his life
I can see his trace but not his face
'Cos it was masked by the shadow of disgrace

'Go away you spirit of evil,
their breath is not yours to mingle! '
The voice emerged from sympathy, summoned his anger
He hurled his knife, adding another life in danger

Death and life were the faces of the coin at toss
Nature plays games to decide whom to cross
But my dear friends, remember this phrase,
luck favors only the brave
Will you embrace, he who hides in a cave?

I braved and so, was saved
And the merchant of death was betrayed by his knife
It looks like the coin was facing this time life
The dagger meant to kill couldn't even pinch
It missed my life by less than an inch

A surge of emotions captured my conviction
'Kill him', said my mind and heart in unison
In the defense of the life of four
I pounced with his knife with roar
I stabbed him in extreme fury
'You did the right thing, ' said my internal jury

Escaping from the realm of clouds falls a ray of light
The face of the dead now glitters in my sight
After seeing the face, my body froze
My heart beat was slow, and my mind was close
After seeing the face, I hear my conviction scream
'Is universal peace just a folly's dream? '

What did I see?
I see that...
The face of the demon was the same as mine
'If we are one then so must be evil and Divine? '

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Every person, has a sense of good and bad. More importantly, he thinks he is on the side of the good. In the beginning of the poem, I think that the hunter is bad. He is devil in hurting the innocent animals. And in trying to save my life from the hunter, I kill him. And by doing so, I myself became a devil. 'The face of the devil was same as mine.' But I did the right thing, isn't it? By killing the hunter, now someone else would call me a bad person. That makes me conclude that there is no absolute good or bad. It is just a relative perception. So, imagining that one day good will triumph is just a foolish dream. This conclusion made my conviction, my believes scream. And to know if my conclusion is right, I need an answer from the wise.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

An insightful train of thought, well articulated and elegantly brought forth in good rhyme scheme with conviction. Lovely depiction of 'man' as the devil 😈 we hear from, see, and interact with on daily basis. Thanks for sharing Nimit. Please read my poem CHILDREN OF CRUEL FATE.
