One must do the best to honor the ancestors and cherish the love and care cultivated by their culture. A very worthy and inspiring poem of Maya Angelou.

A beautiful pledge penned by Maya Angelou. We cannot forget our ancestors. They need to respected and remembered with much gratitude for the contribution they have made during their life time. We need the blessings of our ancestors. Excellent poem that all should read.

Excellent employment of anaphora to emphasise the need for social conscience and solidarity among the Afro - American community.

A much better poem than some of her others. Good repetition of 'BECAUSE', followed by acts of failure, but ultimately redeemed by bonding together as brothers and sisters and acknowledging the answered prayers of the people, so that God brought them out of 'hopeless desolation'. A brilliant, optimistic poem.

BECAUSE we have banished the God of our ancestors, our children cannot pray. IN HONOR of those who toiled and implored God with golden tongues, and in gratitude to the same God who brought us out of hopeless desolation, we make this pledge. a great prayer and advice. tony
