Subway Stranger

Why, I was speeding on the subway, and,
By chance, my empty eyes were laid on you,
All gleaming, lost; then time has stopped and through,
All casual—cape-less—came and gave my hand:
"A random stranger's, love, at your command! "
Oh my! What else was I supposed to do?
I walked in darkness, but you blocked my view:
I had to stop—and hope—and understand!
A prisoner of your captivating eyes:
I was all ears to every single sound; —
Could one get bored from such melodic tunes? —
Alas, so soon from your addictive swoons,
You woke me, kicked me back but underground:
Exclaiming, "Now, ‘tis time for our goodbyes! "
