Safe In My Memory

A smell so familiar that it hides
This room feels much larger than before.
And talk of it is dismissed as lies
What I see is not quite what I saw.
The wicker chair still sits by the bed
To catch me when I fall from a dream.
It’s the safest place to rest my head
When my smile is replaced by a scream.

Joyful memories now in the past
For my reflection, time will not stand.
That tender glory could never last
So I must bow to nature’s demand.
I miss those feelings, I miss those days
My heart felt safe, beating in that place.
