Men going mad
Fighting like animals
For a funny looking ball
To take it across the line.
Heads and shoulders
Bashing against each other
Battling it out in open
Like wild beasts.
The crooked noses
The broken bones
The clotted bruises
And paralysed legs
Testimony to the mad game
Watched and admired by people
Like modern day gladiators
And we live in a civilised world.
