Promises Poem by Jonathan H. Scott

Promises

Promises made,
If ever kept,
All came undone
While our duty slept
Deep in the shadows
And fearful to try,
Now, all that remains
Are the tears in our eyes.

Promises made,
But never kept,
Shattered two hearts—
How often we wept;
For so all alone
And ever goodbye,
Now, all that remains
Are the stars in the sky.
