Our Expectations

We try to do our best each day,
As best as we all can,
But our efforts when we work and play,
Never go the way we plan.

Why must our expectations,
For our days, our weeks and years,
Bring success and failures,
Happiness to some, or tears?

Cannot our lives run smoothly?
Can we succeed in life?
It is not all plain sailing,
We must endure some strife.

If life had no hardships,
We would not enjoy it so,
Without the bad, we’d not appreciate
The good times that we know,

For life must have hardships,
Pitfalls as well as success,
But I pray for my luck to change,
To get me out, from this mess.
