Ode To Bapu: The Beacon Of Ahimsa Poem by Vinaya Joseph

Ode To Bapu: The Beacon Of Ahimsa

In the land where the Ganges flows, pure and wide,
A soul was born to lead with truth as guide.
Mohandas Karamchand, a name to know,
Gandhi, the Mahatma, in hearts would grow.

He walked the earth with humble stride,
In simple garb, no wealth to hide.
His heart was strong, his mind was keen,
For justice and peace, he was a machine.

Ahimsa, the creed he held so dear,
A message of love, for all to hear.
No hand to harm, no word to wound,
In peaceful resistance, strength is found.

'An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind, '
He taught with a voice both soft and kind.
For violence begets but endless pain,
Only through peace can true freedom gain.

Satyagraha, the force of truth,
In his heart since days of youth.
To hold to truth, despite the cost,
To never let one's soul be lost.

In South Africa, his first great test,
To fight for rights, he gave his best.
With steadfast will, and peaceful stand,
He paved the way for freedom's land.

In 1930, the salt tax he opposed,
With Dandi March, his defiance rose.
Two hundred miles, through dust and sun,
A march to show what must be done.

A pinch of salt, a symbol grand,
Of Indian rights, reclaim the land.
With every step, the world took note,
Gandhi's voice, a peaceful vote.

Spinning wheel in hand, he spun his dreams,
Of self-reliance, simple themes.
Khadi, the cloth of Indian soil,
A symbol of freedom, through honest toil.

He wore the cloth, he walked the miles,
With every thread, a nation's smiles.
For in each thread, a message clear,
Of unity, of freedom near.

From Delhi's streets to far Gujarat,
His teachings spread, where justice sat.
He spoke of love, of peace, of care,
To treat each life with gentle flair.

In every heart, his message burned,
For justice, peace, his spirit yearned.
He showed the world, a different way,
Through peace and love, we'd find our day.

In '42, his call rang out,
'Do or die, ' the freedom shout.
The British Raj, the rule must end,
India's freedom, they would defend.

Imprisoned he was, but spirit soared,
The nation rose, its soul restored.
Through struggle fierce, and darkest night,
They held to Gandhi's peaceful light.

But fateful day in '48,
A nation mourned its dire fate.
The Mahatma fell, to bullets cold,
Yet his legacy, forever bold.

In martyr's death, his spirit stayed,
In hearts of those who were dismayed.
For though the man was laid to rest,
His teachings lived, in every quest.

His message crossed the seas so wide,
To lands afar, where hope resides.
From King to Mandela, leaders found,
In Gandhi's path, a truth profound.

Nonviolence as a force for change,
In every struggle, every range.
His teachings gave the world a lens,
To see the power of peaceful pens.

In modern times, his words still ring,
A guiding light in everything.
From climate fight to social wrongs,
In Gandhi's way, the world belongs.

His values teach us how to live,
To love, to serve, to always give.
In justice, peace, in truth we find,
A world united, humankind.

So let us walk where Gandhi led,
In words we speak, in dreams we've fed.
For in his steps, we find the way,
To peace, to love, a brighter day.

His values timeless, ever true,
A gift to me, a gift to you.
In every heart, his spirit flames,
In Gandhi's name, the world proclaims.
