Nothing Left Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Nothing Left

I was a candle in search of love.
There I sat & dreamed.
I wished to be held close
& adored.

Most nights I sat & wandered
in the dark.
I smelled that you were near.
I began to sweat with anticipation
Your index finger leading
The rest of your hand.

I was a candle in search of love.
My head on fire, my hair
Matted in flame.
Not once did I regret it
Not once did I panic.
The shadow my witness to the treaty
Signed by my sigh.

I'll drown in sweat before I make
A sound.
As bright as you need me to be.
I'll burn until there is nothing left
To burn
