Nicknames

When your parents named you.
They wanted you to be unique.
Others now modify and construe.
Rhyme couplings that critique.

Childish inventions;
Teasing quips,
Joking mentions,
Hurtful chips.

Betty Spaghetti,
Fat Pat…
Trite and petty
Scrapes on a doormat

Barry the Fairy,
Jake the Snake,
Thoughtless vocabulary…
Labels that are hard to shake.
