My Teenager

When you do the most inappropriate things,
When you say words I didn’t know you knew,
When you play music far too loud,
Or disappear without a clue.
When you don’t get a proper wash,
When you think rude things are funny,
When your friends turn up uninvited for tea,
Or you want more pocket money.
When you leave your room in a terrible mess,
When you annoy your older brother,
When you don’t comb your hair,
Or pretend I’m not your mother.
It’s then when I realise just how wonderful you are.
